Namesake is a baby name app for iPhone. This page explains what the app and this website collect, why, and what we never do. The short version: no names, no emails, no ads, and nothing is sold.

The app

No sign-up. Namesake doesn't ask for your name, email or phone number. When you open it, the app creates an anonymous account so your swipes can sync with your partner's.

What's stored. To make matching work, we store your anonymous account, the names you keep or pass, your rankings, and which partner you've paired with. This is kept in our database provider, Supabase.

Usage analytics. We use Mixpanel to understand how the app is used, for example how many people finish pairing or how many names get swiped. These events are tied to your anonymous account, not to your name. Mixpanel may also record basic device details, such as your iPhone model and iOS version.

Notifications. The daily name reminder is created on your phone. We don't run a server that sends you push notifications.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies and doesn't show ads. Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses and browser type) for security and to keep the site running. If we add a visit counter, we'll choose one that doesn't use cookies, and we'll update this page.

What we never do

Deleting your data

Email hello@getnamesake.app and we'll delete your account and swipes. Deleting the app removes the data stored on your phone.

Children

Namesake is meant for adults choosing a baby name. It isn't directed at children.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Questions? Email hello@getnamesake.app.
